TimeGhost History: Our Independent Evolution
If The Great War was our proof of concept, TimeGhost History is our declaration of independence. Produced entirely in-house by OnLion Entertainment, this channel represents the next step in our mission to revolutionize digital history. After completing the story of World War One, we—Indy Neidell and Spartacus Olsson—established TimeGhost as the home for our most ambitious, experimental, and comprehensive historical projects.
Bridging the Gap: “Between 2 Wars”
The flagship series of this channel, Between 2 Wars, addressed a massive gap in public historical knowledge: the volatile 20 years between 1919 and 1939. Traditional history often skips from the Treaty of Versailles directly to the invasion of Poland, treating the interwar years as a mere intermission.
At OnLion, we refused to take that shortcut. We chronicled the rise of fascism, the Great Depression, the Spanish Civil War, and the Chinese Civil War with the same granular detail we applied to WWI. This series served as the essential prequel to our World War Two channel, proving that the “peace” of the interwar years was actually a time of relentless conflict and transformation.
Innovating the Format
While The Great War was strictly weekly, TimeGhost allowed us to experiment with different time scales and narrative structures.
- The Cuban Missile Crisis: We covered those terrifying 13 days in October 1962 on a day-by-day basis, releasing episodes exactly 55 years later. This created a tension-filled, thriller-like experience that showcased how close the world truly came to nuclear annihilation.
- The World Dicktionary: A satirical yet factual biographical series where we profiled history’s most notorious figures (or “Dicks”) alphabetically, blending dark humor with hard history.
- Shorts and Specials: The platform gave us the freedom to cover niche topics—from the Indonesian War of Independence to the Suez Crisis—that didn’t fit into a strictly global weekly format.
Powered by the TimeGhost Army
Crucially, TimeGhost History was our first venture largely funded by our community, the TimeGhost Army. Breaking away from traditional media networks allowed us to maintain total editorial control. We could cover controversial topics without corporate interference, ensuring that our “Chronological Truth” remained unfiltered.
